These unusual jet black tektites are from mainland China. Natural specimens
from Guang Dong, China generally show more unusual shapes with much deeper
pitting and furrowing than other tektites. Since no one has ever seen a tektite
being made their true origin is not yet known it is believed that they were formed
approximately 15 million years ago when a huge meteorite collided with the earth
with such force that melted rock and meteoritic fragments are thrown at high speeds
into the upper atmosphere. Here they cool and harden, preserving their splashed,
melted shape, later they rained down on China. Tektites are found in areas that
often our thousands of miles apart.
